Happy New Year, you maniacs you…

Well I’m back.  I spent the last week or so filming “The Cosmic Adventures of Doctor Fabulous”, the new live-action FilmCow short set be released around January 15th.  If you own the “FilmCow Master Collection” you probably recognize the title – it was one of the joke menus.  Well, now it’s an actual movie!  Hooray!  Death Bat 4 here we come!

LOOK AT ALL OF THOSE TAPES GOOD GOLLY

Doctor Fabulous will only be a 10 minute video, but I shot more footage for this than any other movie I’ve ever made.  There is, in total, around nine hours worth of raw video.  I’m importing the tapes now – it’s going to take me all day.

To put this in perspective, “World of Dentists,” which was 20 minutes, only had four and a half hours worth of stuff shot for it.  So this movie, which is twice as short, has twice as much raw video.

If we had shot this much footage on 35mm film stock instead of HDV, the film itself would have cost us 32 thousand dollars – and processing would have been about that much as well.  Three cheers for the digital age!  Screw you celuloid!  You’re not my real mom!

I’ll keep you all updated as to my editing progress.

With that much video, will you be putting up an outtakes video, or would it take too long to go through and find good moments?

Gosh, nine hours? Is this a case of 20 takes per scene, or did you try to remake the lotr movies? It wouldn’t surprise me with such a name.

Oh, and the long indoctrination we’ve suffered regarding the spatulas.. we LIVE for any new related to those kitchen appliances! Throw us a bone, or some kind of soup if possible!

Good golly! I can’t wait for The Cosmic Adventures Dr. Fabulous! I’m just trying to think who Dr. Fabulous might be; perhaps the great Chris Alex. Perhaps…

    No Flabulous Dr Steve?

Also, DAYUM that’s a lot of tape for a 10 minute movie.

Is that just the same scenes over and over again or does it include scenes that won’t be in the movie?

Haha that’s cool, I just got your DVD the other day and you did a great job on it. I thought it would include all your OLD old stuff, but it’s okay. It’s still well worth the money.

    Happy New Year!

Hooray for digital media! Yeah, real film being so expensive is one reason why I’m sure that if everybody just switched to digital they’d be able to get a lot more stuff done in movies. But hey, there’s people (like Steven Spielburg) who like the look of film, so I guess they’re just gonna have to pay for it. Their loss. (Of course, $32,000 for Steven Spielburg isn’t that big of a deal, I guess.)

jason, you wouldn’t have to pay for film, they would have to pay you for using their film. Oh well, digital cameras are amazing, though. Amyways, i cant wait for this to be finished!!! I am so eager to watch this, i feel like edititing this video with you- two amazingly skilled after effects users combining their skills into one, mega masterpiece. But it is your video so i wont touch it.
Well, sleep tight! (idk, im tired, ok? Deal with it)

Hey Jason, whatever happened to your previous promised cartoons such as “space fish”, “bino the elephant”, or “let’s get some lunch”? Will they be finished soon or should i never have my hopes up when referring to past promises?(meant in a joking way but seriously)

Just wondering… is the Cosmic adventures of Dr Fantabulous in any way related to Dr Who? If so that would quite possibly be the geatest thing ever! I mean, the Doctor is equally Cosmic as he is Fantabulous! EXTERMINATE

What came first, the idea for this movie or the fake name of a dvd menu?

  15. Comment by Jason Steele — January 8, 2010 @ 1:32 pm

Alicia – the DVD menu came first, hah. After making it I thought “This needs to be an actual movie.”

So how much did the film you were using cost you?

  17. Comment by Jason Steele — January 11, 2010 @ 1:04 pm

I didn’t shoot on film. I shot HDV, which is just DV tape you can pick up at Target, hah.

  18. Comment by Devils Dog — January 11, 2010 @ 1:22 pm

You should just release all 9 hours of footage on the site.

  19. Comment by Fanatism — January 11, 2010 @ 1:33 pm

How much does the DV tapes cost then? ;] Just for comparison!

  20. Comment by A Man — January 11, 2010 @ 5:38 pm

DV tapes are really cheap now.
