Testing of the DVD is going well…

Posted by Jason Steele | Sunday 6 September 2009 12:11 am

A major part of the tests I wanted to do on the FilmCow DVD is now complete.  Today I checked how the DVD worked and looked on all of the DVD players I have access to, which includes my Mac, my Mac laptop, a PC laptop, a cheap DVD player, a portable DVD player, and the Xbox 360’s DVD player.  The disc worked perfectly on all of them, and the only thing I needed to fix was the coloration of some menus that looked a little funny on cheaper, high-contrast screens.

Tomorrow (Sunday) I’m planning on going through and watching every second of video and commentary to make sure there are no hidden issues or glitches I may have missed, and if all goes well I’ll be sending off for my first manufactured test copy on Monday.

So, only about a week and a half before it’s available for sale!

i don’t know if this has been asked but; will there be any guest commentators on any of the commentaries?

Actually none of the commentaries are just me, they were recorded with Chris, Nick, Joshqua and Jennifer.

Sounds great. What will the price of shipping be for International Buyers?

(I live in Australia if that helps.)

I like the amount of effort you’re going through here.

Basic shipping is going to be $4, both for United States and International shipping.

    will there be a PAL-Edition?

  9. Comment by Jason Steele — September 6, 2009 @ 10:41 am

No. All of the videos were originally created NTSC. To convert them would be very difficult, especially considering I don’t have a PAL DVD player or TV to test it on.

    Sorry!

I’m still not sure about buying the DVD. Could you put a few sample commentary clips online? I want to know if it’s worth purchasing for the commentaries.

Taco Wiz – uh, it’s commentary. It’s me, Chris, Nick, Josh and Jen rambling on about the various FilmCow movies.

If it doesn’t sound like something you want to own then don’t buy it – I mean, it’s a compilation of movies that you can get for free on FilmCow. I think it’s worth $14, but I’m the kind of person who likes to own weird independent releases like this.

I would buy it even if it had no features, just because I think Jason needs money for making good films.

Yeah, we’re actually looking at how well this DVD sells to see if it’s viable to ever do a live action FilmCow feature.

Hey Jason, what do you think of the PS3 Slim?

Also, you can send me a copy and i can test it on PAL for you [/excuse to get free DVD]

Before you go thinking about live action features, is it possible you could finish off that incredibly awesome spatula-themed film we haven’t heard anything about in ages?

  17. Comment by Jason Steele — September 6, 2009 @ 8:33 pm

MrSnaztastic – of course, but Spatula Madness doesn’t cost much to make so there’s no financial risk in making it.

I would definitely pay to see a hilariously low budget drama that takes itself way too seriously written by Jason Steele.

    I’m super excited. Definite buy.

Just to be sure, you should check every second of everything, on all of those DVDplayers :D

YAY!!!!!! Quick question, are you using Adobe Encore for making the DVD and how are you supposed to make so many DVDs at once?

  22. Comment by Jason Steele — September 7, 2009 @ 11:57 am

    I’m using DVD Studio Pro.

I’m not manufacturing the physical DVDs myself, they’re being produced by another company.
