The FilmCow DVD is almost complete!
Well, the DVD is on the edge of completion, and right now I’m expecting a September 15-20 release date. There’s about a weeks worth of work left to do on it, and after that I need get a review copy manufactured and tested.
Here is a final list of everything that will be on the disc.
Movies:
Llamas with Hats, Gods of Olympus, Detective Mittens: The Crime Solving Cat, John McCain and his Vegetable Friends, Ferrets, Dad Cop 2, Charlie the Unicorn, Charlie the Unicorn 2, Charlie the Unicorn 3, Charlie the Unicorn YouTube Live Promo, Charlie the Unicorn YouTube Live Video, Charlie the Unicorn Hot Topic Video (The Tomb of Horrors), Socksual Innuendoes, The Cloak, World of Dentists, Trapped in the Garage, and How to Play the Violin.
It totals out to 75 minutes of FilmCow videos. There are a few other movies that I wanted to include, but we ran out of space and I decided that keeping the special features was probably more important than being able to watch “Mr. Happy Face” on your TV. As for special features, here’s what the DVD includes…
Special Features:
Two commentary tracks for each of the videos listed above. One serious, one… quite a bit less serious. So that’s two and a half hours worth of commentary.
Dad Cop 2 Re-Edited: This is Dad Cop 2, only re-cut using all of the worst takes of every scene instead of the best takes.
Two exclusive cartoons, made just for this DVD.
Behind the Scenes: A rare glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes here at FilmCow.
Hurricane Charley Documentary: Me and my friend Gian riding out the storm back in 2004. One of the main suggestions I got for special features was “include old material”, so here you go. This was on FilmCow a long, long time ago but it was really low quality. SO, here it is in watchable-quality for the first time! I did some slight re-edits to fix a few technical problems the old video had.
The Charlie the Unicorn “Adult Swim” Video Pitch: This is the pitch, in its entirety, that I made to Adult Swim back in 2007 when they were interested in making a Charlie show.
Random Audio Pitches: These are short “pitches” I did for Detective Mittens, Gods of Olympus and Space Mission Alpha (the latter of which was never actually made.) Basically, these are short sections of dialogue being delivered in-character to give an idea of what the cartoon will be like.
And then there’s the menus, which we actually put some work into and think you’ll be amused by. AMUSED.
Expect an “It’s Done” update in the next week! WOOOP WOOOP.

Fun times. I’ll definitely be buying this DVD.
You still got it Jason.
It sounds fantastic and perfect. Pertastic.
I bought a bunch of Charlie Shirts from Hot Topic this week. Honestly I like the ones on your Cafe Press site more. The HT ones are too busy I think.
Where do you plan to sell the DVD? Will it/can it be at Hot Topic? Amazon? Or just through your site? I hope you sell the bejesus outta them. I may buy 50 and give them to all my friends and family… seriously.
Fantasterfect?
Alicia – as of right now the DVD will just be available on my site. It’s possible that eventually I’ll sell it elsewhere, but as of now I have no plans for that. The main reason is money – in the case of Amazon, for example, they take 55% of each sale. Seriously, they take more than half of each sale just for the privilege of having your item on their site. So as much as I would love to sell this on Amazon, I would have to seriously increase the price to make a real profit.
I shall definitely be buying.
Sooo, no porn will be included?
Oh well, it still does sound like one heck of a dealio.
Can you give up the title for the two extra videos?
I will quite likely be buying 3 copies of this.
Looks good, Jason
can’t wait!
Sounds great! Jason, you’re the man!… man!
How long are the documentary, behind the scenes, and TV show pitch? I’m still trying to figure out if it’s worth paying 14 bucks just for the special features.
I can’t wait to buy this snazztastic DVD.
huh
i was expecting a lot more
but it really depends on how long the documentary and 2 cartoons are.
You should have animated the space mission alpha for the DVD
and the copy of Hurricane charlie that i have is good quality, but i can’t wait to see this version
Looks great, was just wondering if the DVD is going to be usable in the PAL region? (I’m afraid the answer will be yes) :S
Still keep up the greatness
John Doe – The DVD is region-free, but it’s NTSC so if you live in a country that uses PAL you’ll either need a computer or an NTSC-capable DVD player to play it.
Devils Dog – how much do you think a DVD can hold? A standard DVD can only hold around 90-120 minutes of video. Just the movies themselves are 75 minutes long, and they each have two commentary tracks which takes up a lot of space.
The two cartoons are short, around the length of Llamas. The behind the scenes video is pretty long, it’s still being edited but I expect it to be around 15 minutes. If you watch every movie and listen to every commentary and watch every special feature it’ll take you around four and a half hours. I’m not sure how we could do better than that, and I really can’t think of another “internet-series DVD” that has more on it. Certainly not for $10.
good, now finish spatula madness. i have been waiting since knoxkast episode 11, and thats AT LEAST 3 years ago.
thank you for all the laughs over the years. i still can’t stop myself from saying “crab meat” if i want to say that something is delicious.
on another note i’d like to hear your voice again so start a podcast, even if it is you reading the days headlines. i want my hour a week Jason fix.
WOOP WOOP!
Sounds great, I’m especially excited about seeing the Charlie Adult Swim pitch and the behind the scenes footage. However, do you plan on doing a Volume 2 in a year or 2 with some of the videos you left out (Richard Crumb, Eduardo Spatulahands, Attack of the Man-Eating Giraffes)and some newer videos? Also is it going to be called “The Filmcow DVD” or are you going to announce some kind of wacky Jason type name you’re keeping under wraps?
Brobotnik – those videos were excluded because they use copyrighted music and I can’t sell them.
The official DVD title will be announced when I post the cover art in the next week or so.
Don’t you still have the final cut (or whatever software you use) files and could just replace the music.
I personally would love to see both Eduardo Spatulahands. The original and the remake remastered for a DVD. I haven’t seen the original in years and I miss metaphor and the giant mountain dew can.
honestly…. even if the dvd ONLY had ‘already released’ cartoons on it and nothing else…. I would still buy, because I think Jason needs to start making a ton of money for making me laugh all these years.
Man O’ man! in one day there are 21 comments! Anyone who will buy it say abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz!
This sounds like a homemade pice of junk… Which is EXACTLY why im buying it!!!!
Im just joking, it sounds like you put a lot of work into this fantabuexcelpermazing DVD!!!
Ps- name the dvd after me, as someone (or something) has to carry on my… Yotube name
Jason I am very excited about this. Except that your expected release date is the day AFTER my birthday haha.
Hello? anyone want want it say :abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz!
Oh yay! Although what happened to Eduardo Spatulahands? that was one of my favorites
And who needs “trapped in the garage”, “socktual innuendoes” or “how to play the violin” anyway!?
At least you didnt include “a man and his elephant”
Still keep up the good work
Sushishusy – I’ve included almost every video that I can legally include. Eduardo uses copyrighted music, I can’t sell it. I really wish I could have my old live-action projects like Eduardo or Richard Crumb on the disc, but I just can’t.
As for the movies I did include, “Socksual Innuendoes” is actually my highest rated video on YouTube, as far as star-ratings are concerned. I have no idea why, but it would be silly to leave it out.
Pie monster- i want it but im NOT saying abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
How is Untitled Animated Short coming along?
Will the $10 include shipping?
Christian – no, see my previous post about the DVD for shipping info. It should be $4 shipping, both inside the US and outside.
Alright, thanks.
