This is one of those projects I started and then abandoned pre-animation when I realized how retarded it was.  As for why I decided to make a “Legends of Zelda” cartoon… well I had found clips of the old TV show (“excuuuuuuse meee, princess”) and thought it might be funny to make a terrible Zelda cartoon of my own.

The only problem with purposely setting out to make a terrible movie is that you’re probably going to end up with a terrible movie.  And so I pulled the plug on this project, but not before recording the dialogue and doing some rough sketches.

MTV

Posted by Jason Steele | Wednesday 11 February 2009 7:34 pm

I talked with someone from MTV today, and it looks like I might be writing a pilot episode for Bino the Elephant.  Who knows if it’ll go beyond the writing stage, but there you go.

Right now I’m drawing various hats for a short cartoon that’ll be up on FilmCow in a little over a week.  Oh, and there will be a new movie released on FilmCow this Friday as well (two days from now!)

In addition to that I’m going to start posting bits of stuff that I’ve worked on that never got finished.  For every movie I actually release on FilmCow there is usually one or two that didn’t make it past the writing, audio or art stage.  I might make it a regular series on this blog, “Jason’s Hall of Failure.”

Interview with Chris Alex

Chris Alex and I just finished recording dialogue for an upcoming animated FilmCow short.

Here is an interview with Chris, recorded just moments ago!

Trapped in the Garage…

New video up on FilmCow, check it out.

This is one of the two short movies I’ve completed recently, as mentioned in the previous post.  I’m doing another one tomorrow (well, Tuesday, so today.)  I hope to keep a steady flow of content released on FilmCow, seeing as my larger projects seem to take forever, and these smaller ones I can complete in a day or two.  It helps that I’m now living much closer to my cousins, who have appeared in most of my live action films (both because they are funny and because they are willing to lock themselves in a garage with me in freezing weather.)

Also I’ve made minor adjustments to the “Movies” page – it’s now divided into small sections to keep the videos better organized.

What to blog…

Because of the long span of time between the release of each FilmCow video, and because of the epic delays that have occurred with my feature film “Spatula Madness,” I’m going to start writing about what I’m
actually working on day to day. This might give you a better idea of why some of this stuff is taking so long.

Also, I’m going to go ahead and give status updates about every single thing I’ve ever talked about working on ever.

First, Spatula Madness. I am not working on it right now. That is why there have been no updates. I stopped working on it full time when I started receiving television show offers, and I never picked back up after those offers fell apart. Instead I started focusing on my website and expanding the content I put on here and YouTube. And then… I got more television offers, and I spent all of my time developing those, and of course they also fell apart.

So, I started working on web stuff again. And then I got an offer from the website Crackle to do a web series… and I spent a bunch of time putting together pitches for two possible shows. The pitches went well, and they asked me to put together pilots for each pitch. So I made the first pilot, “Detective Mittens,” and they stopped writing back. Thus, no Space Fish yet (ONE DAY.)

Yes, Detective Mittens was originally planned as a 10-episode series for Crackle. I actually have 10 full episodes mapped out for Detective Mittens.

I am a fish, in space. I am Space Fish.

I am a fish, in space.

The other show they were interested in is called “Space Fish.” You can see Space Fish on the right. Space Fish is a fish in space. You can hear the glorious Space Fish theme song here.

I just now realize how many of my cartoons have animals as the main characters.

One movie I’ve had listed on FilmCow as “Coming Soon” for ages is “A Serious Business Meeting.” I have no idea when this will be released. The audio for the movie is totally finished, it’s just really, really stupid and I haven’t been able to bring myself to animating it yet.

So… what am I working on right now? Actually, at this very moment I am working on another television pitch. MTV contacted me and is apparently interested in getting back into animation. I am pitching a show called “Bino the Elephant.” (More animals!) It is about a quantum physicist who has opened a portal into hell, and creates an army of various genetically modified super-animals to try and conquer the underworld.

If MTV doesn’t go for it I plan on making a short Bino cartoon for the internet because, well, I think it’s hilarious and I need to keep up my animal quota.

What else… hmm… I have two short non-cartoon movies finished and ready to go, expect to see them on FilmCow in the next week or two. Tomorrow (Tuesday) my cousin Chris is coming over and we’re doing voice-overs for another short movie, which should be released around the same time as the two finished ones mentioned above.

I’m also about halfway through Charlie the Unicorn 3, expect to see that later this month (come on, one Charlie movie a year isn’t too bad.)

Those of you wondering about the “KnoxKast Radio” podcast… there will in fact be an episode 75, and it will be released in about 3 years.

Those of you wondering about Chaos Pony… that might actually be starting up this month.

Those of you wondering when I’m actually going to start working on Spatula Madness again… as soon as Charlie the Unicorn 3 is out I plan on going back to that full time, and when I do I will start posting regular updates regarding the production again.

Well, that’s all for now. I really want to get back into “blogging,” it helps me stay focused when I have random strangers on the internet peeking into my life.

Here we go…
